This page says what this site keeps about you, where it goes and for how long. It is written for the demo store; change it to describe your own business before you publish your site.
Forms
When you send a form on this site (a question, a call-back, a test drive or service booking, a car to sell with its photos, a sourcing request or a newsletter or club sign-up), what you typed — such as your name, e-mail address, phone number, car and message — is kept on this site so we can answer, and a copy is e-mailed to our team. We keep it until we have dealt with it and delete it on request. Your IP address is used, for one hour and only as a one-way hash, to limit how many forms one visitor can send.
Signing up to the shop’s club creates a discount code for your e-mail address only; the code is e-mailed to that address, and the code and the address are kept with the store’s coupons until the code is used or expires (expired codes are deleted daily).
Photos sent with a car for sale are kept in our media library under random file names: they are not published or listed on the site, but like any uploaded image a photo can be opened by someone who has its exact address. They are deleted with the message.
Votes on answers and comments
When you mark an answer or a comment as helpful, or open an answer, a short one-way hash of your IP address is kept with that answer or comment (the last 500 at most; the opened ones only for the day), so each visitor counts once. The address itself is not stored.
Reviews and comments
A product review or a comment keeps the name, e-mail address (not published), car and text you give, the star rating, and — as WordPress does for every comment — your IP address and browser; it is published once approved.
Shop and checkout
The shop runs on WooCommerce: your cart is kept by WooCommerce (its session cookies), and the details of an order are kept with the order. If you ask for installation at our service bay, the chosen time, your car and VIN are kept with the order and the booking is added to our service schedule. A cookie named avava_install keeps that choice for one week so the checkout can show it.
Stored in your browser
Some choices are kept only in your own browser (local storage) and are not sent to us: the cars you saved or picked to compare, saved products and recently viewed ones, saved searches, the draft of a car you are selling, the stories and answers you marked, whether you joined the club, your colour scheme, accent and motion setting, the layout choices of the listing pages, and — for this visit only (session storage) — whether the opening animation was already shown. The one exception is the installation time you pick on a product page, which also goes into the avava_install cookie described above. You can clear them in your browser at any time.
Maps
Pages with a map show a drawn map first. The live map tiles come from OpenStreetMap (tile.openstreetmap.org) and load only when you press “Show live map” (or with the page, if the site is set to load maps right away); your browser then asks their servers for the tiles, so they see your IP address and the area shown — see the OpenStreetMap Foundation privacy policy. Once you choose to show maps, this browser remembers it (avava-maps) and shows maps on other pages too.
Cookies and storage by name
Kept in your browser by this site (local storage): avava-theme, avava-accent and avava-motion (colour scheme, accent, motion); avava-fav, avava-fav-products, avava-fav-v2 and avava-fav-v3 (saved cars and products); avava-cmp (cars to compare); avava-recent (recently viewed products); avava-searches (saved searches); avava-sell (the draft of a car you sell); avava-stories, avava-helpful and avava-faq-votes (stories and answers you marked); avava-club (club sign-up); avava-install (the installation time you picked); avava-bar and avava-sidebar (the filters you saved on the listing pages); avava-maps (you chose to show live maps). For this visit only (session storage): avava-pre. Cookie: avava_install (one week).
WooCommerce sets its own: the cart session cookies (woocommerce_cart_hash, woocommerce_items_in_cart, wp_woocommerce_session_…), the order-attribution cookies sbjs_current, sbjs_current_add, sbjs_first, sbjs_first_add, sbjs_session, sbjs_udata and sbjs_migrations (how you came to the store, kept with an order you place), and storeApiCartData and storeApiNonce in local storage for its cart and checkout. WordPress sets comment cookies (comment_author_…) when you ask it to remember you, and the login cookies of signed-in users.
