Careers at Master Lawyer
We are a firm of 120 lawyers in New York, London and Paris, and most of us came here for the same reason: to do the work ourselves, not watch it from the back of the room.
Juniors here draft the first version, take the client call and stand up in court, with a partner one desk away rather than one floor up. We keep teams small so you know who reads your work, we publish the salary on every role, and every application is read by a lawyer, not a keyword filter.

Why work here
What you can count on
-
A partner in your corner
Everyone is paired with a partner outside their own team. You meet once a month, they read your drafts if you ask, and they speak up for you at review time.
-
Real work from month one
First-year associates run client calls, write first drafts and attend hearings. A senior lawyer reviews your work; they don’t quietly redo it.
-
Pro bono that counts
Up to 50 pro bono hours a year count towards your target. This year that meant tenant defense in Queens and asylum appeals in London.
-
Hybrid by default
Two days a week from home once you have settled in. Core hours are 10 to 4, and nobody expects an answer to an email sent after 8 pm.
-
$4,000 a year to keep learning
Spend it on courses, conferences or a second bar admission. Study leave for exams is paid on top, and we cover the exam fees.
-
26 weeks’ parental leave
Full pay for every new parent, however your child arrives, followed by a four-week phased return so you can ease back in.
Life at the firm
One desk away
I joined the London office as a trainee in 2012. In my second month Jonathan handed me a client call I didn’t feel ready for, then sat beside me and said nothing unless I looked at him. That is still how we train people: you do the work, and someone who has done it a hundred times is right there.
- MondayCase review over lunch. Anyone can bring a matter that has them stuck.
- ThursdayTeaching hour, run by a different lawyer each week, recorded for the other offices.
- Twice a yearExchanges between New York, London and Paris for associates who want them.
